 Sultanahmet

This itinerary wil take you around the First Hill,beginning in Aya Sofya Meydanı,the great square that lies between Haghia Sophia and Sultan Ahmet Camii, the "Blue Mosque." Aya Sofya Meydanı occupies the site of the  Augustaeum,which was the focal point of public and cultural life in Constantinople as well as the forecourt to the Great Palace of Byzantium.

 Blue Mosque

Its magnificent series of domes and semi-domes,its six slender minarets sprouting from the corners of the mosque,its spacious courtyard,and its grandiose yet elegant proportions,make Sultan Ahmet Camii (also know as the Blue Mosque) one  of the architectural marvels of the  world. Davut Aga built it on the orders of Sultan Ahmet I (1603-17),hence its official name.
